Jean-Nil Poirier passed away suddenly on November 28, 2024 in Meadow Lake, SK at the age of 68.
Jean-Nil was born on March 17, 1956 in Val-Brillant, PQ to Georges and Marie-Laure Poirier (Blouin) in a family of 7 siblings. He moved to Saskatchewan in 1977 and worked at the PCS Rocanville mine. It was while working there that he married Sheila Dobson from Moosomin, SK in 1978 and they raised 3 daughters while living in Welwyn, SK.
Throughout his life, Jean-Nil was skilled with his hands. He became a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic while working at PCS and was also part of the mine rescue crew, with whom he participated in competitions throughout the province. He also enjoyed carpentry and worked on several large and small projects throughout his life, both for his family and as a contractor in Saskatchewan and Quebec. He loved golf, riding his motorcycle, and trying the latest and greatest tools as they became available. In 2016, Jean-Nil moved to Meadow Lake to work and live near his children and grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly. Since moving to Meadow Lake, Jean-Nil became a familiar face on the golf course and in the local hardware stores, where he loved helping others and sharing his knowledge and experience in construction. Jean-Nil was a loyal friend and colleague, as well as a loving brother, father, and grandfather.
He is predeceased by his parents, Georges and Marie-Laure, sister Danielle, daughter Alyx, and grandson Carson.
He is survived by his siblings Lorraine, Suzanne, Chantal (Jean-Marie), André (Jacinthe), and Bernard (Suzanne); daughters Annique Poirier (Troy) of Whitewood, SK and Ashly (Mike) Wagner and their children Cadence and Callie of Meadow Lake, SK; son-in-law Terence Johnson of Regina, SK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
