Obituary
With great sadness, the family of the late Orest Sheptak, beloved husband of the late Iris Sheptak, announce his passing at the Yorkton & District Nursing Home, Yorkton, SK, on Friday, May 31, 2024, at the age of 79 years.
Orest Joseph Sheptak, the son of Dymetro and Pauline (nee Shuya) Sheptak, was born and raised in Porcupine Plain, SK. Growing up, he was a diligent hard-working farmer, but farming wasn’t the lifestyle he wanted. He carried on his ways fulfilling a prosperous career in drywall, travelling across Canada for work. The best job he accomplished was marrying the love of his life, Iris Babyck of Norquay, SK. Orest met Iris at the Silver Leaf Café in Canora SK, where he was a prominent customer, and she always added an extra scoop of ice cream to his float. On June 29, 1968, they were happily married and together, they ran their company that successfully supported their family until their years of retirement.
On July 14, 1969, they welcomed their first son, Kelly, into the world. The following year, on October 12, 1970, their second son, Cary, was born. A life with boys was not complete until 1975, August 10, when their youngest bundle of joy, a daughter, Tricia, arrived. Over the years, as a family, they travelled, camped, made large bonfires in the yard and enjoyed many events together, always keeping life interesting.
As their story began in Canora, their goal in life was to retire in the same place. After many years of moving and travelling, they found their final destination just a short distance from Canora, in Amsterdam, SK.
After slowing down into retirement, Orest was not travelling as much for work. To keep
himself busy, he made himself into a full-time landscaper to their beautiful property in
Amsterdam. Here, the couple enjoyed cutting grass, gardening, constantly picking up sticks, and continuing their bonfires where often the kids and grandkids would join for a much-needed night of relaxation, rye and OJ, and s’mores!
Orest’s silly pranks, jokes and comments were the highlight of every visit. He loved to
pick on his grandkids, take them for truck and tractor rides, and occasionally the spendy
shopping spree he painstakingly admitted to by the end of the day. After accomplishing his daily duties, you could find him in the living room with a drink in hand, watching ever so quietly, WWE Smackdown.
Dad, Gedo, Great-Gedo, you will forever be missed.
Orest was predeceased by his parents, Dymetro and Pauline; siblings, Beatrice, Bill, and Doris; brother in-law, Danny, and his grand-daughter Jasmine.
He is survived by and will be forever missed by his daughter, Tricia, and granddaughters: Chantal (Evan), great-grandson, Aidyn, Kayla (Alex), Courtney (Josh), great-granddaughter, Harlee-Ann; son, Kelly (Tracey), grand-kids, Victoria, great-granddaughter, Haley, Skylar (Dustin), Brooklyn (Tripp), Braydon (Victoria), great-grandkids, Wyatt and Faith, and Jackie (Parker); son, Cary (Audrey); and his siblings, Mike (Sharon) and Paul (Maureen); as well as many nieces, nephews, and all the great ones that followed.
