Obituary
Linda was born to William (Bill) and Virginia (nee Hyntyshyn) Matichuk on October 5, 1954. She was the second child born to the Matichuk family.
She grew up on a farm in the Burgis Beach district and attended Wysla school for her younger years, then moved to Canora Composite High School for her middle school/senior years.
Linda was a big sports fan, playing for the Burgis beach Lakerettes fastball team growing up, as well as participating in any other athletic events she could. Linda enjoyed watching hockey, especially the Chicago Blackhawks, as they were her favourite since day one.
Growing up, Linda helped on the farm as well, milking cows, helping Virgie make food for the men in the field, and other various chores that needed to be completed. This led to Linda’s very hard work ethic. In 1982, Linda began her 40+ year with the RCMP. There she had various jobs, one being a telecoms operator for the OCC at the Yorkton Rural detachment, which eventually was solely moved to depot in Regina. Linda was happy living at the lake, and wasn’t overly keen on moving, so she took a job in Kamsack as a stenographer for a few years, eventually moving back to Yorkton City detachment, until her retirement in 2021. She worked with so many wonderful members and staff while she was with the RCMP. She always enjoyed going to work because of them.
Eventually, after her retirement, she realized she wasn’t able to sit still and began a job as an EA in Canora, then eventually at Yorkdale school in Yorkton. This also made her very happy as she enjoyed all the staff and the kids she got to work with.
Linda met her husband, Wayne (Albert) McInnes while on a night out with friends at the Corona Hotel lounge in Yorkton, in 1974. They hit it off from there, eventually getting engaged and married in 1975. They had a fulfilling and wonderful marriage, always supporting each other in each other’s goals and jobs. In 1990, Linda and Wayne welcomed their only daughter, Brooke, into the world. Brooke brought much joy to their life, always keeping them busy and on their toes. Linda and Wayne always made sure to be there for her, whether it was driving her to sports events, dance practices, or various high school events. Linda never wanted to miss a thing. In 2022, her first grandson, Bowen, was born, which finally made her a Baba. Bowen was the apple of her eye, and she spent every last minute with him, until her unexpected passing.
Linda never wanted people to be sad if she was to ever pass; she never wanted people to grieve, she wanted people to celebrate the moments they’ve had together and to cherish the memories. She was a great woman, wife, mother, baba and friend to all. She will be greatly missed.
Linda is predeceased by paternal grandparents, Dora and Pete Matichuk; maternal grandparents, Jennie and Pete Hyntyshyn; brother, Charles; and father, William (Bill) Matichuk. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Wayne McInnes; daughter, Brooke (Clayton Yourk) McInnes; mother, Virginia Matichuk; grandson, Bowen Yourk; great aunt, Elsie (Terry) Smyth and great uncle, Donald Hnytyshyn; as well as various extended family, cousins, and her friends.
Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 26, 2024, and the Funeral Service at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, 2024, both from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Canora, SK, with Rev. Fr. Yurri Obukh and Rev. Fr. Michael Faryna officiating. Interment will follow in the Holy Ascension Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Burgis, SK.
