Obituary
With great sadness, the family of Geraldine Wiebe announce her passing at the Gateway Lodge on August 28, 2024, at the age of 77 years, with her beloved husband by her side.
Geraldine Margaret Wiebe was born on December 12, 1946, to Abraham and Katherina (Schellenberg) Wichert at Saskatoon, SK. She attended Strawberry Valley School to Grade 11. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Peter G. Wiebe. On October 12, 1968, they were happily married. They moved to Saskatoon, where Geraldine was a happily devoted housewife, known for her baking and her fresh homemade buns. In October 1973, their beautiful daughter, Heather Dawn was born. In 1975, they decided it was time to go farming! They bought a dairy farm near Hepburn. In February 1976, they had a handsome son, Quentin Leigh. Their family was now complete. After a few years of dairy farming, it was time to change up the farming career to grain farming. In 1981, they decided to move to Canora SK. In 1985, Geraldine was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Disease; she struggled with cancer for 9 years, but then went into remission and never looked back. Her health had declined, but that did not stop her. Geraldine started her own little venture of selling eggs to the people of Canora. She always took her job very seriously, no matter rain or shine, she was on the road every Tuesday delivering eggs. After years of hard work, they decided to sell the farm and in 2005 they moved to town. She was very involved with TOPS, Hospital Auxiliary, Keen Age Centre, and very devoted to the United Church and the Joy of Singing group, helping in any way she could. She took great pleasure in gardening and her farm animals. When her grandchildren came around, she loved spending time with them and going to their activities. She thoroughly enjoyed watching Lane curl and when Paityn brought Grayson around, her face lit up with pure joy. She was well known for her quilting, homemade buns, and her Jam-Jam’s.
Left to celebrate her life are her beloved husband, Peter of Canora; her daughter, Heather (Kent) of Buchanan; son, Quentin (Val) of Riverhurst; and her grandchildren: Michailya, Paityn (Dylan), Lane (Sara), Madison, and Cole; her great grandson, Grayson; her brothers, Wayne (Lillian) Wichert, Bruce (Sheila) Wickert and Lynn (Kerry) Wichert; sisters, Shirley Frewin, Diana (Tim) Senger, Bernie Keller, and Sharon Schafer; and her brother-in-law, Dan (Teresa) Wiebe and sister-in-law, Maria Collins; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
Geraldine was predeceased by her parents, Abraham and Katharina; brothers, Ken and Richard; sister, Grace; father-in-law, Jacob Wiebe and mother-in-law Maria Wiebe; brothers-in-law, Harold Frewin, Greg Schafer, Jacob Dyck, Fred Wiebe and John Collins; and her sisters-in-law, Jean Wiebe, Elizabeth Dyck and Susan Wiebe.
A Celebration of Geraldine’s Life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 5, 2024, from the Chapel of Leson’s Funeral Home with Tricia Challoner officiating. Interment will follow in the Canora Cemetery, Canora, SK.
