Obituary of John William McRae
The family of John William McRae announces his peaceful passing at Pontiac Reception Centre, Shawville, Quebec on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the age of 82 years. He was predeceased by his father Harry McRae and mother Alice Martineau. He was also predeceased by his sister Mary McRae-Wiggins, brother-in-law Ray and his two older brothers, Lorne and Clifford. The early death of his nephew Robert Wiggins greatly impacted him. He is survived by his youngest brother, Frank (Eileen Schwartz), his niece Isabel (Doug Schwartz) and great nieces and nephews Adam Wiggins (Sarah), Mark Schwartz (Paige), Shawn Schwartz (Meaghan) and Virginia Wiggins-Freeborn (Jeff). He is also survived by great-great nieces and nephews Heidi, Jack and Sawyer Schwartz, Oliver, Annabel and Fletcher Schwartz, Lily-Skye and Georgia-Rae Freeborn and Lucas and Charlotte Wiggins. John was a quiet unassuming man who worked for the Western Quebec School Board as the custodian of Onslow Elementary School in Quyon, Quebec. He loved his job and was meticulous in taking care of the school and grounds. He enjoyed seeing new students, teachers and principals come and go. John also loved his cars, watches, dogs and radios.
Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 1040 Clarendon Street, Quyon, Quebec on Tuesday, July 16, 2024 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment Mohr’s Cemetery. A celebration of John’s life will take place in the Quyon Legion following the interment.
