HARBECKE, Lothar – On Sunday, December 17, 2023, the world welcomed a new north star as Lothar “Lou” Reinhold Harbecke, aged 91, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. His life journey continues as he reunites with his cherished wife, Emmi Harbecke (née Berwald), who preceded him in eternal rest on June 3, 2018.
A man of integrity and warmth, Lothar was a pillar of his family, guiding his daughters Diane Rushton (Jeff) and Connie Kennedy through life with a steady hand and a gentle heart. He was a proud Papa to his grandchildren Jessica, Joshua (Jessa), Jacob, Skylar (Madeline), and Brooklyn (Kevin), as well as to his great-granddaughter Charlotte, instilling in them the values of courage, kindness, adventure, and finding the joy in life’s simple pleasures.
His life was a tapestry of honest work, dedication to family, cherished friendships, and a deeply rooted love for nature that he shared through his many tales of the great outdoors. His sister, Marita Furhman, along with his friends and neighbours will remember him for his kindness, infectious laughter, and readiness to lend a helping hand. His family is comforted by the legacy of the life he lived and know his strength and kindness will continue to light the way for all who knew him.
