It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Giannina Giancaterini, who is also known to many as Giovanna, Joanna or Gianna. She passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024 at the age of 81 with her loved ones by her side. Giannina was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother, a loyal sister, and an outstanding friend to many. She was a blessing to all who knew her and left a mark on everyone she met. She will be deeply missed by her children Larry (Carol) and Angela (Michael), as well as her grandchildren Tyler (Simran), Vanessa, Milena, and Luca.
She is survived by her sister Palmina (late Fiorino) and her dearest friends who were family to her and her children, Maria (Andrea) and Gilda (Domenico). Giannina is now reunited with her late husband Tonino, her late parents, Enrico and Angela, her late sister Elisabetta, and her late brothers Adamo (late Angela), Corrado and Alessandro (late Paulina). She will be deeply missed by her cousins, nephews, nieces and friends in Canada and in Italy.
Giannina was born in Bisenti (TE), Abruzzo, Italy. She married Tonino in 1966 and boldly immigrated to Canada shortly after, settling in North York (ON). Giannina worked as a seamstress for custom suit maker Lou Myles for over 30 years. She took pride in her baking, pasta and pizza making, being well known far and wide for her generosity in sharing her creations with friends and neighbours.
Visitations for Giannina have been entrusted to the DeMarco Funeral Home – Woodbridge Chapel (8003 Weston Road. 905.850.9500) and will commence on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 27, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Padre Pio Parish (5500 Major Mackenzie Dr. Vaughan), followed immediately by an Entombment Service at Glendale Memorial Gardens (1810 Albion Rd. Etobicoke).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to HOSPICE VAUGHAN in Giannina’s honor.
