Schmidt, John Thomas
Passed away suddenly on Monday, October 16, 2023 at the age of 64. Reunited with his loving parents Madeleine and Ted. He was an exceptional brother, and brother in law to, Phil Schmidt and Wife Norma Roman of London, Larry Schmidt and Wife Rebecca Brown of Sauble Beach, Cathy Schmidt and Husband Jeff Webb of Windsor, Bill Schmidt and Wife Mary of Emeryville, Rob Schmidt and Wife Catherine of Mt Brydges. Cherished uncle of Sarah, Josh, Michael, Andrew, Kate, Ashlynn, Christopher, Chelsea, Jaclyn, Dave, Ashley, Matthew, Nathan, Erin, Adam, Madison, Kiersten. Great Uncle to William, Nicholas, Winnie, Scarlet, Carter, Genevieve, Rowan, Cora, Sophia, Liam, Leo, Myles, Cole and Blake.
John was a retired high school teacher and coach with the Windsor Es Catholic District School Board. He was a much decorated high school football and track and field athlete, recipient of the 1978 Royal Arcanum Male Athlete of the Year. John continued his accomplished athletic participation at the University of Western Ontario where he continued his excellence in dual track and field events, earning from Western a 1983 Purple Blanket and induction into the Western Track and Field Hall of Fame in 2008. He is a self-taught 12 string guitar enthusiast, John loved playing music.
He was a humble man, yet larger than life, who brought positive energy to any room he was in. John was a good friend to all and will be missed and yet celebrated by everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Windsor Chapel – Banwell Chapel on Friday, October 20, 2023 from 2-5pm and 7-9pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 10am until the time of Funeral Service in the Chapel at 11am. In accordance with Johns wishes, cremation will then take place. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to Hiatus House in Windsor or a charity of your choice. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared at windsorchapel.com
