JOHNSON, Raymond – The family of Raymond Curtis Johnson is deeply saddened to announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 in his 97th year. Raymond was born July 21, 1927 in Hanley, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by his wife Barbara (2012) and son Ross (2011). He is survived by his children Judy, Arlene, Curtis, Phyllis and Tim (Susie). Fondly remembered by his 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Greatly missed by Elizabeth and Robert Young, Karen Johnson, Darrell and Gay Harnett and many nieces and nephews.
Grandpa grew up on the Prairie, riding his horse Queenie to the one room school house named Sunrise. Raymond was the youngest of 11 children on the farm. Coming east, he met the love of his life Barbara and married in October 1949. Working many years at the Welland Hydro with Barbara doing nursing they raised a lively family. Grandpa and Grandma loved to host and attended many family functions. After owning Hipwell’s Motel for a while, they settled in Welland surrounded by the best neighbours ever. Cremation has taken place. Raymond’s funeral service will be held at Central United Church, 12 Young Street, Welland on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior to service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Central United Church, the Walker Family Cancer Centre or a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated.
