HUNSBURGER, Eva May (nee McIntosh) – Died peacefully, in the presence of her family, on Tuesday March 26, 2024 at the Royal Rose in Welland at the age of 93. Eva was born on August 29, 1930 to Hugh Lyall McIntosh and Verna Belle Whittaker in Williamsburg, Ontario. Her early home was the family farm close to the site of the original McIntosh apple tree. She moved to Ottawa to attend secretarial college and was employed at a local insurance company. She married Willam Joseph Hunsburger, an OPP officer on September 29, 1952 and they raised seven children; David (Winifred) Hunsburger, Mary Ellen (Michael) Diamond, Laurel Powell, Daniel (Diane) Hunsburger, Susan (Roy) Kirkup, Robert (Tracey) Hunsburger and James (Jennifer) Hunsburger. The family lived in Winchester, Lancaster, Stoney Creek and Niagara Falls. Eva enjoyed playing tennis and softball, and attending local hockey games. She excelled at puzzles and playing cards – especially Euchre. No mistakes were allowed if you were her partner! She attended St. Thomas More Church and was an avid volunteer at the church and for the City of Niagara Falls. She was a Red Cross blood donor with seventy-five donations. Eva is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; Christopher, David, Meghan, Gregory, Adam, Taryn, Bethany, Robert, Alison, Janice, Robert, Kristina, Rachel, Phoebe, Jacob, Owen and Claire, ten great-grandchildren; Declan, Heilo, Ellington, Isabelle, Elliott, Addison, Garnet, Penelope, Escher and Hannah. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Verna, husband William, brothers Raymond and Bert (the late) Norma, and favourite sister-in-law Sarah (Aunt Sally). A Funeral Service in celebration of her life will be held on Saturday April 6, 2024 at 11 am at the PATTERSON FUNERAL HOME, 6062 Main St, Niagara Falls. The Rite of Committal will follow at Stamford Green Heritage Columbarium (The “old” St. John’s Church), where she will rest alongside her husband, Bill.
