BLACKLOCK, Doreen (Dora) was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her life was long and full of love. Born in Shell Valley MB. June 7th, 1931, only daughter of Nick and Dora Krichkowski. Doreen grew up on a farm in Manitoba with her three brothers, Peter (Norma), James (Ethel) and Sandy (Florence). Doreen left the family farm at the age of 18 and moved to live with her Aunt Annie in Port Colborne. This journey took her to Welland where she met and married Alex Blacklock and started a family of her own. Her children Sandra (Pat Garand), Thomas (Micheline), Robert (Marie “Pinky”), Helen (Larry) and Nicholas (Jenny) will cherish their memories of her.
Throughout Doreen’s life she was a cook at Towers and the Barclay Hotel. A natural gardener in her lovely backyard, growing every vegetable under the sun. Her grandchildren loved to pick and eat in all the garden goodies in addition to catching the fireflies at night. She was a crafter of lovely quilts that are adored by family & friends and maker of the world’s best cabbage rolls and pierogies.
She will be missed and remembered by her grandchildren Tara Smith (Greg), Heather Garand (Derek), Robert Blacklock, Aaron Blacklock, Larry Fast (Jodi), Sarah Humphries (Andrew), Jeffery Fast, Dana Sandonato (Nick). Her great grandchildren lovingly called her Baba, she will be missed by Ethan, Liam, Leah, Jessi, Logan and Roman.
Doreen was a Grandma to every young person she met, a good friend to more than can be named and her memory will live on through her grandchildren, great grandchildren and every heart and mind she touched.
Predeceased by her husband Alex Blacklock, Brothers Peter and Sandy Krichkowski and her special friend John Cline. Doreen is survived by her brother James Krichkowski (Ethel) of Swan River MB.
