The family of Helen Kathleen Coverdale is saddened to announce her passing on Saturday, October 14, at the age of 95. Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald (2005). Also predeceased by “big brudder” Maurice Wainwright, her sister Phyllis Locke, and granddaughter Colleen Nicholson.
Lovingly remembered by her six daughters and their families: Susan and Aird Wilson, Ruth Coverdale and Frank DeMaio, Jill Coverdale and Jay Bell, Beth Coverdale and Dave Doslea, Jane and Bob Hardwick, Amy Coverdale and Gerald Huber. Cherished Grandmother to Seth and Trish Wilson, Rebecca and Ryan Kinghorn, Lauren and Brian Whitwham, Adam and Jennifer Nicholson, Brandon and Lidia Rigg, Clayton Rigg and Emily Lloyd, Jesse and Melissa Bye, Megan and Andrew Proteau, Dean Hardwick, Colton and Amelia Prine, and Margaret Prine. Dear Great-grandmother to Aidan and Carter, Griffin and Athena, Emily and Michael, Braeden, Ava and Makayla, Damian and Valentina, and Lilly.
Helen, the second child of Alfred and Kathleen Wainwright, was born in York, Toronto. In 1931, the family relocated to Hamilton. She attended Queen Mary Public School and later Delta Secondary School. Helen met the handsome and charming Don at a dance; he quite literally swept her off her feet! Married in 1950, the city girl moved to Carlisle and embraced life in the rural farming community. Working side by side, she and Don ran a productive family farm, and later a successful aggregate business. Her six daughters were her pride and joy!
Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown. A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. at CARLISLE UNITED CHURCH, 1432 Centre Rd., Carlisle. Interment will follow at Carlisle United Church Cemetery, with a reception afterwards.
