Donna Fay Parker (nee Lattimer) Obituary
Donna Parker (nee Lattimer) passed into her Saviour’s rest on February 7, 2024 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Hamilton after a valiant fight for life against several infections. A big thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff for excellent care. Her family supported her throughout her month-long battle as Donna supported them throughout her long life.
Donna grew up on the century farm of Elgin and Jean Lattimer in the Cayuga area, driving a tractor at age eight. After Caledonia High School she took nurses’ training at Hamilton General Hospital, earning her R.N. She also spent 3 years at Canadian Bible College. In nursing she specialized in Labour and Delivery at Joseph Brant Hospital, Burlington. She was awarded a 40-year pin as a Red Cross Volunteer.
Donna married Allan Parker who was a teacher at Mary Hopkins School in Waterdown for 28 years. Students knew Donna as hostess for class parties the pair held at their home. Donna and Allan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2023. They had three children: Judith (Paul), Jim (Carolyn), and Bruce (Christine). Donna was predeceased by her only sibling, Joanne. Donna’s servanthood manner made her the adored matriarch of the family that included 8 grands: Anne, Elizabeth, Jean, Laura, Barbara, Mark, Caleb, and Shauna.
During Donna’s last battle the family sang hymns to her which echoed the hymns that for many years Donna played on the piano and sang with Allan each night after dinner. Her computer skills produced two books as Donna’s and Allan’s life stories for the family. If Donna could be summed up in one word, it might be OTHERS or FAITHFUL, words that represent her true legacy.
Visitation on Monday, February 12, from 6pm-9pm, at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown. A service to celebrate Donna’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 11am at FLAMBOROUGH BAPTIST CHURCH, 41 5th Concession East, Waterdown. Interment at Waterdown Union Cemetery, followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Red Cross, Flamborough Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.
