Steve Toth of Hanover passed away at home on Wednesday, April 22, 2024, in his 89th year.
Steve was born in Welland, Ontario, on July 26, 1935. After completing secondary school, he apprenticed as a tool and die maker and worked for General Tire from the late 1950’s to the early 1960’s. At the urging of his wife Jean, Steve went back to school and received his teaching certificate. He accepted his first teaching position at Richmond Hill Secondary School where he taught Machine Shop for the next several years. In late 1969, he accepted an offer to be the Technical Director for the newly created Technical Department at John Diefenbaker Secondary School (JDSS) in Hanover. Steve and Jean bought a farm just outside of Hanover in early 1970 and assumed his duties setting up the tech department at the school. Son’s Patrick and David arrived on scene in 1970 and 1971 respectively. He continued to teach at JDSS and farm until his retirement in the early 1990’s. Always the avid fisherman, Steve spent a good portion of his retirement years ‘trying to catch the big one’.
Steve is survived by his son Patrick, his daughter-in-law, Alma and their two sons, Patrick Jr and Andrew: all of Peterborough.
Predeceased by his wife Jean, and son David.
A private family interment will be held in Walkerton Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to Hanover and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made online at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com
