James “Jim” Russell Johnston of Kitchener passed away on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, in his 74th year. Dearly missed by his loving partner Bunny Battersea of Kitchener. Beloved father of Lisa (Keith) Kaminski of Kincardine, Craig Johnston of Walkerton, Laura Clark (Brent Rickert) of Kincardine, Megan Johnston (David Spahich) of Southampton, Kyla Johnston (Kyle Bosch) of Tiverton, and fondly remembered as “Jimmy” by Lesley (Dennis Hentges) Kaufman of Kitchener.
Jim was very proud of his many grandchildren; Ethan, Dylan, Kian, Rylli, Hadlei, Deakon, Navy, Gryfin, Dexter, Addison, Milo, Felix, Wyatt, Maisyn, Onyx, Matthew, Megan, and Charlie.
He will be remembered by his sister Evelyn Graham of Toronto, niece Ashlee and nephew Jeff, and his brother Campbell (Karen) Johnston of Walkerton
Predeceased by his sister Jean Johnston, brother-in-law Kim Graham, and parents Earl and Nellie (nee Cumming) Johnston.
Jim was a farmer at heart. He worked the land from when he was a boy until his final days. He spent hours in the fields, repairing tractors, and talking about corn yields with anyone who would listen. He enjoyed being outside, gardening, and tinkering with many outdoor projects, big or small. He had a passion for collecting coins and toy tractors and shared this hobby with his grandchildren. He loved to watch the kids play sports, read books, and play on the floor with little ones. He always had a smile on his face and brought love and laughter with him wherever he went.
Friends and relatives are invited for a casual memorial visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2023, at Cameron’s Funeral Home in Walkerton.
