George Eldon Culbert of Mildmay passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Pinecrest Manor, Lucknow, in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Shirley, loving father of Sherry (Brian) Durrer, Penney (Dave) Niesen, Steve (Paula) and Chad, all of Mildmay. Proud Papa to Nick (Brandy), Virginia (Alex), Emily (Krys), Brooke (Lance), Sadie (Daniel), Hannah (Daniel), Cara (Jarris), Dakota (Lauren), Colton (Taylor), and 14 great grandchildren. George will be missed by his sisters Velda Howe of Mildmay, Jo-Anne (Gary) Hamer of Port Elgin, sister-in-law Audrey Culbert of Mildmay. Also, fondly remembered by the Preiss family, and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his grandson Mackenzie Durrer, brothers Victor Culbert and Barry (Harriet) Culbert, brother-in-law Les Howe, and his parents George and Allie Culbert.
George was truly committed to his family, community and church. He was a dedicated member of the Mildmay Fire Department for 31 years, holding many positions including Fire Chief. George was a licensed mechanic and could repair most anything. It was often said, that if he couldn’t fix it, it wasn’t broke! George was very well known as a farm equipment salesman and valued the relationships he had with his customers. He was blessed with a very good sense of humour and was always quick to share a joke. George will be dearly missed by his family and many friends, including his coffee club gang.
Friends and relatives are invited for memorial visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Cameron’s in Walkerton. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Church, Mildmay. Pastor Christine Rehkopf officiating. Reception to follow at the Mildmay Carrick Complex Hall.
Interment in Mildmay United Church Cemetery, Mildmay.
