After strong determination and courage to keep fighting and doing everything he possibly could each day, it is with heavy hearts that we announce William “Bill” Dietrich of Mildmay passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Loving husband of Theresa (nee Ruetz), who will miss their morning dates of coffee and homemade muffins which Bill looked forward to every day. Proud father of Mitch (Nadia), Andrea (Shaun), and Becca. Missing back rubs from their Papa, are all his grandchildren, Maddie, Hailey, Leah, Hudson, Wyatt and Sawyer.
Sharing this loss are his siblings, Margaret (Dave) Gowland, Joe (Darlene) Dietrich, Pat (George) Boomer, brother and sisters-in-law Leona Grubb, Helen (Jerry) Kieffer, George (Marie) Ruetz, Alice (Murray) McCulloch, Rita (Ron) Murray, Ed (Karen) Ruetz, Dennis (Jo) Ruetz, Elmer (Lorraine) Ruetz, Lloyd (Janet) Ruetz, many aunts and uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, many co-workers and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Jerome and Anna (nee Al) Dietrich, parents-in-laws Joseph and Clara (nee Reinhardt) Ruetz, and brother-in-law Eddy Grubb
Bill started working for the County of Bruce at the young age of 19 in the Maintenance Department at The County of Bruce Building. It wasn’t long until he was given other responsibilities at the Walkerton Court House and Jail. As the years passed, Bill’s strong work ethic led him to become the Environmental Services Manager at Brucelea Haven in Walkerton and was hands-on with building the new Brucelea Haven. He was known for his knowledge, common sense, and hard work. Staff knew if they wanted a job done properly, he was the guy to go to.
After 36 years with the County, he retired and immediately began to travel, starting with The Netherlands to see where his mom, Anna, grew up and visit extended family members. Traveling was one of Bill’s favorite things to do. Keeping in touch with his relatives was always dear to his heart. He got to explore a lot of new places and made many lifelong friends. He had many more places to see and things to do on his bucket list but was thankful for all the travel he had done. Bill was also a member of the South Bruce Fire Dept. for 17 years and for some of those years he was the training officer.
To stay busy in retirement, Bill worked in construction and then cabinet making, which he thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of the hands-on work.
Heaven must have needed some maintenance done!
