Del Conte, Velia (nee D’Amore)
With great sadness and heavy hearts, the family of Velia Del Conte announce her peaceful passing on August 23, 2024, in her 87th year, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Cerchio L’Aquila Italy to Biagio D’Amore and Maria Rossi. Youngest of three siblings, late dear brother Venanzio (late Giovanna) and Zelinda Meogrossi (late Gaetano). Velia immigrated to Canada in 1957, where she met and married her loving husband, the late Antonio Del Conte. Blessed with four children, Marco (late Michel), Josie Plumb (Greg), Mary Derakhshani (Parviz), and Denise (Babak Derakhshani). Velia’s pride and joy were her seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Marcus, Madison, Jake, Veronica, Emma and Eric. She was a dear daughter-in-law to the late Nicola Del Conte and late Giuseppina Antonucci. Sister-in-law to the late Lucia (late Ottavio Cialone), late Gabriele Del Conte (late Anna), Francesca (late Enrico Ciampa), and late Pasquale Del Conte (Vilma). Velia loved her family and was very fond of her many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was an active member of The Catholic Women’s League at St. Luke’s Parish for over 25 years. She was a talented seamstress and loved reading, bowling, bocci, playing cards and travel. Velia lived by the values of Faith, Family and Integrity. A special heartfelt thank you to Doctors Jeurgens, Okawara, Slaven, Shaw and staff at Juravinski Cancer Centre, and the wonderful care received at Margaret’s Place Hospice. Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 454 Highway #8 (east of Millen Road) STONEY CREEK (905-664-4222) on Monday, August 26, 2024, from 3-5 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Roman Catholic Church, 200 Mount Albion Road, Hamilton, on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Margaret’s Place Hospice.
