Patricia McGuire
April 13, 1924 – December 4, 2023
For Mom, life was about relationships – all you need is love. Here is an abridgement of her loving relationships:
Daughter of Martha (d.) and William Lee (d.). Mom was born in Hamilton, ON. The 3 of them travelled across Canada from when Mom was 6 months old until they sailed from Halifax when she was 10 with 3 younger siblings included. They went to England for Grandfather’s businesses. Her horse there was named Joey. She rode him across the fens of Dymchurch. And, she rode on an elephant at the London Zoo.
Big Sister to William (d.), Robert (d.), Elizabeth and Traylee (d.) Ten years younger than Mom, Elizabeth resides in Kent, England. Proud Canadian, she served in the Canadian Woman’s Army Core in England from 1943-1945. In her Company, although she was a Private, they called her General Lee. She was posted in London. She added driving a jeep to her modes of transport.
Wife of Allan Douglas McGuire (d. 1984). Dad came back to Canada ahead of Mom. He was in Midland training Naval Cadets for a war on the seas of the Pacific when the end of the WWII was announced. Mom followed from England and landed in Halifax; she was back home in Canada. The rest of her “hops
across the pond” would be by airplane. A time for peace and family began. Mom had been skeptical that Dad was from a family of 9 sons and 1 daughter. The daughter, Thelma Patricia (Micky) became Mom’s lifelong friend. Marrying Dad meant that she gained Hugh(d.) and Roselena (d.) as wonderful parents, and, membership in the McGuire Clan. Of Dad’s siblings, Paul McGuire resides in Schomberg, ON. One sister-in-law survives Mom too. Susan McGuire resides in Montreal, QC
Mother of Lee & Shirley (nee Guitar); Mark; Patricia & Kenneth Taylor; Susan; Willieann & Philip Laven; Allan; Molly; and, Kelly (d.1977). Mom travelled extensively with her children. She rode a camel when she was 65.
Grandmother of Dylan & Jody (nee Swift); Daniel & Karly (nee Klinkoff); Kenneth Taylor; Katrina Taylor (d.2020); Simon Laven; and, Emily (nee Laven) & Kevin Griffiths. Who mostly knew her as a refined granny. Although there was that one incident in the Winnebago in Las Vegas where Kenneth’s practical joke really backfired.
Great Grandmother of Aidan & lan; Liam; Jenna, Jessie & Ethan Taylor – de Beau; and Zia & Elodie Griffiths. The very old with the very young, Mom loved babies.
McGuire Clan matriarch to the many nieces and nephews.
Friend to many who have gone ahead of her and are now visiting in the hereafter. Friend to some who are here. And look forward to being reunited with Mom in the hereafter. One calls her Auntie Mame, others call her a remarkable lady. Was it mentioned that she considered riding in a helicopter as the most exciting ride?
If you want to do something in Mom’s memory, let those you are in a relationship with know you love them. She would want you to be kind to yourself and believe that you are always loved.
