Susan Mary Jane Duffy passed away peacefully in her 75th year at Humber River Hospital after a long battle with MS.
Born in Timmins Ontario, she was clever and excelled in her studies later attending Arizona State University where she completed her undergraduate degree in Foreign Languages and was fluent in French, German, and Spanish. This is where Susan met and married Skip Atkinson and became a mother to her two beautiful daughters Dawn and Shannon whom she loved deeply. In her younger years, she worked as a translator at Toronto Pearson Airport and later in finance at CIBC Insurance.
She had a beautiful singing voice, was well spoken, and her bright contagious smile, and boisterous laugh will be remembered by all those who knew her. She loved and cherished her Irish roots, and had long standing Christian beliefs that she carried throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Dawn Atkinson LaSasso (Gary), Shannon Atkinson Alpert (Scott), and her grandchildren Ava LaSasso, and Grant Alpert.
Predeceased by her mother Kathleen Anderson (Tommy) father James Duffy of Northern Ireland and sisters Joan Duffy Brunet and Linda Duffy Pratt. Susan will also be fondly remembered by her nieces, Terri, Sherri, Leslie, Maryanne, her nephews David and Greg and her many cousins in Canada, NewYork, and Ireland.
A very special thank you to her many home care givers over the years, the nurses, doctors, and personal support teams at both Summit Place Retirement Residence (Owen Sound) and West Side Long Term Care
(Etobicoke) for making Susan’s journey a little easier.
As per her wishes, a cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. In her honour, donations may be made to MS Society or CMHA.
