With great sorrow his family announces Norton’s peaceful passing at Michael Garron Hospital in Toronto, surrounded by loved ones, on Mar 6, 2024, in his 89 th year. He was the son of the late Joe Abramson and the late Lily Crotin. Survived by his sister Rachel and predeceased by his brother Micky. He will forever be missed by his six children: Michael (Sharon), Heather (Tom), Dina (Les), Jeff, Max, and Joel (Maryam) and by his 6 grandchildren: Matt, Madison, Sami, Mark, Scott, and Jordyn. He also leaves behind many cousins and friends.
Norton owned the Living Lighting in the Beaches for 35+ years and treasured his staff. He was born and raised in Montrock (Iroquois Falls), Ontario and referred to it as home for his entire life. After graduating from high school, he studied chemical engineering at Queen’s University in Kingston. With his degree in hand, he moved to Sturgeon Falls where he raised his family and worked for 26 years as General Superintendent of Abitibi Pulp and Paper, and later MacMillan Bloedel. For a few months, he worked as a consultant for a forest products industry in small- town Jarrett, Virginia. When they offered him a permanent position, he had a choice to make: another small town, or living his dream in the city? “Ever since I heard my first hockey broadcast, at six years old, I wanted to live in Toronto (even though the Maple Leafs lost that night).” His decision was made. He spent the rest of his life in Toronto. He bought a lighting franchise, remarried, and added two more boys to our family. He chose to live and work in the Beaches area, which he felt was like a friendly small town. He had the best of both worlds. At 84, he still enjoyed golfing and tennis. He reluctantly sold his store in the fall of 2022 at 87 years young, when his health started to decline due to Vexas syndrome. He loved to make people laugh with his quick wit.
He lived a good long life for which we are forever grateful.
At Norton’s request, there will be no funeral service. If desired, memorial donations may be
