Joseph “Joe” Valentino passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Toronto, just a few days shy of his 86th birthday. Now reunited with his wife, Dorothy, who died in 2018, he is survived by his son, Gerry; his daughter, Elena, and her husband, David; and, his son, Nick and his wife, Care, and step-daughter, Lee. Though he was a quiet man, Joe left a lasting impression on so many who met him and he will be sorely missed.
Joe spent his last years in Toronto, to be closer to his children. But, he never lost his love for his birthplace, Windsor, Ontario. He continued to read the Windsor Star to stay up-to-date on the local news and often reminisced of the more than seventy years he lived there and all the people he knew and loved. Too much of his time in Toronto was spent in hospitals, but he managed to buck the odds and overcome each health concern. He loved reading mystery thrillers and watching classic movies, especially Rio Bravo with John Wayne and Dean Martin, a movie he saw more times than he could remember. A lifelong fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, he watched almost every game and fondly remembered the team’s glory days in the 1960s, when Joe himself was still a young man and a new husband and father.
Per his wishes, Joe will be cremated and a service will be held at a later date in Windsor to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
