1933 – 2024
Grant was a loving husband to Pat (Shackel). They met as teenagers and were married for nearly 68 years.
Grant was a dedicated father to his children Brian, Lynda (Fred), and Bruce (Jo-Ann). He enjoyed their many athletic endeavours and was their designated chauffeur. As a grandfather to seven and great grandfather to eight, Grant found immense joy in watching his family grow. He relished every moment spent with his grandchildren, especially at the cottage, creating lasting memories and countless stories that will be treasured for generations to come. Fondly remembered in their hearts, he left an indelible mark with his warm smile and trademark phrase, “Here comes trouble.” His love and affection knew no bounds, and his family was truly blessed to have him as their patriarch.
Grant was preceded in death by his brother Gary (Lynn). His memories were a reminder of the special bond they had.
Throughout his life, Grant was a lithographer by trade, but was affectionately known as “Mr. Fixit” by family and friends. He had an innate ability to tackle any task no matter how complex and find a solution. Thankfully his children have inherited this talent.
His generosity and kindness touched the lives of many. Outside of his work and community involvement, Grant had a passion for curling and square dancing which brought him immense joy and allowed him to connect with others who shared his love for these activities.
He was a past member of the Royal Canadian Legion and received the Tony Stacy award for his many hours of volunteering. He was also commended by the city of Scarborough for his Christmas decorations and landscaping efforts.
In remembrance of Grant, should you wish to contribute, please consider donations to The Kidney Foundation or Prostate Cancer research.
A special message of gratitude goes out to Grant’s caregivers, especially Rodielyn and Cindy. Their unwavering support and compassionate care brought comfort to both Grant and his family. Their dedication and kindness will never be forgotten.
Grant will be remembered as a loving husband, a devoted father, a beloved grandfather, and great grandfather. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
