Cameron James Turnbull Obituary
It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing of Cameron (Cam) Turnbull at his home in Long Branch, Toronto after years of declining health.
Cam was born in Toronto on June 26, 1954 and immediately adopted by ecstatic parents Charles (1922-2016) and Elaine (1925-2021). Along with his two younger siblings Douglas and Laura, Cam lived an idyllic childhood primarily in Beaconsfield, Montreal; competing with his dad sailing on the St. Lawrence, excelling and teaching skiing at Mont-Tremblant plus his love of hiking/camping trips.
In 1971 the family moved back to Toronto and settled in The Kingsway where Cam graduated from Etobicoke Collegiate and went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Ryerson yet spent most of his career as an International Pork Trader earning him the nickname “ The King Of Pork “.
Loved by everyone he knew, Cam was the funniest, kindest, generous, incredibly talented man…he could fix and build anything including the infamous dune buggy in the mid 70’s. He also rode a Norton 750 Commando, hanging out with friends every night at McDonald’s on Islington where he would meet the love of his life Janet; married in 1978 he settled down to raise a family.
Cam was known for his love of cooking; competing/judging smoking competitions and winning first place for chicken at the Canadians held in Barrie. IPSC (International Practical Shooting) was his passion, competing with his son Tommy he went on to become President of the Barrie Gun Club.
Famous for never owning one of anything, if you wanted to borrow anything, he had it.
After suffering a career ending brain aneurysm in 2013 he spent the last several years struggling with health issues.
Cam is survived wife Janet, children Graeme and Thomas (Shannon), the lights of his life grandsons Cameron and Lochlan, brother Douglas, sister Laura Reilly, brother-in-law Dwight Wilson ( Donna ), sister-in-law Lori Micucci (Kelly) and beloved late brother-law David Wilson (1966-2021) nieces/nephews and many friends.
Our family thanks everyone for the love and support during this difficult time, Cam will be terribly missed.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, December 13th from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 101 (3850 Lake Shore Blvd. W.)
