In Loving Memory of
Anna Maria Mariotti (née Sambughi)
(Anna de Casciot)
Wednesday August 18, 1937 – Sunday September 30, 2024.
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anna Mariotti, surrounded by her loving family. Anna was born on August 18, 1935 in Fano, Pesaro, Italy. God called Anna back home on September 30th, 2024. Anna is reunited with her beloved father, Alessandro Sambughi, her beloved mother, Virginia Sambughi (née Tombari), her dear brother, Alberto Sambughi, her nephew Attilio Sambughi, and her sister-in-law, Alba Galli. She is also predeceased by her loving in-law’s Iole (Boldrighini) Mariotti and Guido Mariotti.
Anna leaves behind the love of her life, Derno (Zeno) Mariotti of 64 years married, with which she shared her life. Together they raised four wonderful children.
Anna was a devoted and loving mother to Sandy, Nedy (Ed Crossland), Eddy, Cindy and a loving nonna to Allesandra, Daniele, and Alessandro.
She leaves behind her brother-in-law, Enzo Galli, Elso Mariotti (Nona) and her nieces and nephews (Denny, Debbie, Robert, and Elisa, Marco, Marcello), and great nieces and nephews.
She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Gianna Sambughi, her nephew Alessandro Sambughi (Lory De Simoni), her niece Adelle (Edy) Sambughi, her great nieces and nephews, Milena Sambughi (Giovanni Oliva), Maurizio Sambughi (Sara Saudelli), and great-great nieces and nephews Alessandro, Martina, Melissa, and Letizia, in Italy.
Anna was known for her intricate sewing skills. She made her family clothes and worked as a seamstress in Italy. She even made barbie-doll clothes for Nedy and Cindy.
Anna loved to cook and host for family and friends. Her famous Marchegian dishes were passatelli soup, homemade fettucini, meatballs, cappelletti in brodo, and breaded chicken cutlets stuffed with mozzarella and prosciutto. She loved to spend time going for walks with dad and sitting on the veranda in the summertime months.
Anna also managed dad’s upholstery sidekick business, spending lots of time helping him. If his work was under par, she ensured it was done again to her excellent standards.
Anna greeted everyone with a beautiful, welcoming, gentle smile and a sparkle in her eyes, which lit up the room and hearts of everyone she met. Anna had a great and playful sense of humour. She will be fondly remembered by her family, relatives, and many friends and neighbours.
Anna’s memory will forever be a source of comfort to all who were blessed to have known her. May Anna’s faith in God allow her to rest peacefully and eternally in heaven.
Gratitude and appreciation to the multi disciplinary teams at Toronto General Hospital for the exemplary care they provided Anna.
Relatives and friends are welcomed to Bernardo Funeral Homes (2960 Dufferin St., south of Lawrence Ave. W.) for visitation on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 2-5 and 6-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Church (2 Richardson Ave. – Eglinton Ave., east of Keele St.) on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11:00 AM.
