Obituary for
John Scott
The family announces with great sorrow his passing at the Timmins and District Hospital on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the age of 90 years. Beloved husband of the late Sarah Scott (nee Metatawabin). Cherished father of Rita Scott, Lucie Scott, Gilbert Scott (Margaret), Madeline Scott (Meeshan), Francois Scott (Minnie) and Jacinthe Scott. Proud grandfather of Candace, Joe, Mandy, April (Leo), John, Honarine, Michael, Melissa, Nadine, Tiffany, Justin, John C, George, Brianna, Sarah and Jeremiah. Great grandfather of Alesha, Kaylee, Riley, Ethan, Hailey, Shyla, Lucas, Dallas, Adrienne, Gwenyth “Gwen”, Jakob, Jonathan, Mason and Levi. Great-great grandfather of Skyler. He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. John is predeceased by his children Arthur Scott, Cecilia Scott and Paul Scott, his grandchildren Ryan and Pamela Scott and his parents Alfred Scott and Sarah Nakogee.
John was a Cree man and an only child born and raised in Fort Albany, Ontario. He had a strong belief in the Catholic faith. John worked hard all his life to raise his family, he believed in hard work for survival reasons. He worked on the winter road driving a heavy tractor on the James Bay coast for many years and was also a maintenance worker at the James Bay General Hospital until his retirement in the early 2000’s. During his time off he loved to take his children out on the land teaching traditional hunting and fishing. He taught us how to harvest and navigate the land. John loved to tell stories and always made everyone laugh. He had a great sense of humor, his jokes and laughter will be missed. He will always remain in our hearts and in our minds.
The family would like to thank the staff at Extendicare Timmins for their dedicated care and support, sadly our father had difficulties communicating with the staff due to language barriers. Dad always told us he is proud of his children because he gave them the opportunity to have an education.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at St-Anthony’s Cathedral at 1:30 pm followed by burial at the Timmins Memorial Cemetery. Remembrance donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
