It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Joeann Shirley Gervais at the Timmins and District Hospital on Thursday February 22, 2024 at the age of 72.
Loving mother of Randy Gervais (Vicki), Shelly Laforest (Richard), and Wayne Gervais (Kim). Dearest and treasured grandmother of Taylor (Alan), Brittany (Justin), Brad (Stephanie), Alexandre, Emily, Jonah, Mia, Theo, Naomi, and Emery. She also had 5 great-grandchildren that she adored spending quality time with; Amelie, Payton, Lincoln, Daxton and Callum.
Predeceased by her father Joseph O’mara and her step-mother Marian O’Mara, her mother Mary Elizabeth Cox and her stepfather Bill Cox, her brothers Frank O’Mara. Survived by Betty O’Mara and Doug McIntosh.
Dearest sibling to Rosemary Matt (late Gary), Ron McIntosh, Richard Dennett (Lila), Pat Cooke (late Dennis), Jean Kemshead (late Wayne), Heather Demers (Rick) and Bill Cox (Late Dake Hertz). She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Joeann was a vibrant woman that loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Lord’s Kitchen and enjoyed helping those in need. She worked for many years making beautiful creations as a florist with William Drew and finished her career working at Levis Metro as a deli manager. She met many long-time friends and thought of them as family. We all fondly remember the rolled-up bologna that she gave to her kids and grandkids when we visited her at work.
Her laugh was nothing short of infectious and could be recognized by all. Her grandchildren lovingly remember Ritz crackers with Cheese Whiz after school by the pool. Mom took every Wednesday off to spoil her grandchildren. She loved these days and never thought of it as babysitting, as it was her pleasure.
Growing up, Mom was always a proud, active and involved hockey parent, often being the manager of the teams. She was a taxi to her kids and grandkids, and to those in the neighborhood. Mama “G” was lots of fun. We all have many fond memories of her; Peter Pan, May run jelly shots, road trips all over the place, parties at the Gervais’, and so many other shenanigans.
Later in life, Mom had many health scares. We really thought she had 9 lives. She survived pancreatic cancer and many other illnesses.
The family wishes to thank her many doctors and nurses that have helped her through the years. A very special thank you to her friends Diane Arcand and Louise Aube who where her confidants. We have so much gratitude for them.
We will receive family and friends at the Lord’s Kitchen (85 Spruce Street North, Timmins) on February 27th, 2024 from 2 pm to 7 pm for a memorial and small luncheon. In lieu of flowers, remembrance donations to the Lord’s Kitchen would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lessard Funeral and Cremation Centre.
