Obituary for
James “Jim” Wilson
WILSON, James G. (1959-2024)
It is with extreme sorrow that the family announces the passing of Jim Wilson at the Timmins and District Hospital on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at age 65 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Cindy Wilson and proud, loving father of Jenna Wilson (partner Kyle). Dearest son of Marion Wilson (nee Jackson, 1934-2008) and John P. Wilson (1931-2017). Dear brother of Maureen Swain (husband Tim), Peter (wife Joanne), Nancy Legault (husband Luc), and Michael (wife Tina) all of Timmins. Dear son-in-law of Violet and George Morin and brother-in-law of Olive Morin (husband Rick). Cherished Uncle of Jeffrey Swain (fiancée Karen), James Swain, Scott Swain, Lindsay Wong (husband Steve), Geoffrey Blais (wife Caleigh), Zach Legault, Christopher Wilson (partner Sadie), late Brent Scott, Mikey Wilson (partner Angel), Ryan Wilson (wife Kennedy), and Haley Wilson. And devoted and loyal best friend to Tim Swain and Paul Facca. And special thanks to Nancy and Luc for helping Jim realize his dream of having a pontoon boat and floating on the river with you both.
Jim was born and raised in Timmins, ON. Throughout his childhood and early adulthood, he was a talented athlete and an avid member of the sports community. He loved playing ice hockey, football, and baseball, and would be the first to tell you that goalies were the most gifted skaters on the team. Jim loved to be in nature and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends on the water on his parents’ infamous houseboat. After attending Laurier University, Jim completed his teaching degree at the University of Western Ontario and began his illustrious career in education. In 1991, Jim started teaching at R. Ross Beattie Senior Public School, where he taught for 32 years, until retiring last December. Jim enriched the lives of everyone he knew and had a unique ability to make those around him feel special and understood, especially his students. He had many friends and colleagues with whom he shared a profound, mutual respect. Jim’s ability to connect with people, to offer a listening ear, share a piece of sage advice or wry humour was a testament to his unrelenting commitment and generosity to those around him. He was an active member of the community, organizing fundraisers to support and uplift others. He was a dedicated and caring husband, father, and relative. Jim lived his life to the fullest and was known for his compassion and empathy to all. His life and contributions will leave an indelible mark on everyone who knew and loved him.
Jim’s wife and daughter would like to give a special thanks to the dedicated staff at Access Better Living who have shown him care and support over the years. They would also like to give a special thanks to Dr. Gerard Champion, Dr. Harry Voogjarv, and Bayshore Nurses to their ongoing commitment to his health and well-being. Lastly, a special thanks to the TADH staff and Dr. Kiersten Parr for kindness and support.
Remembrance donations to a student award to be created in Jim’s honour (cheques payable to: Miron-Wilson Donations). This award is intended for students who show integrity, helpfulness, and respect toward others. The family will receive friends during a memorial reception held on Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. from the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME.
