It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Derek Sheppard Kwandibens, age 47 years enroute to Thunder Bay on Saturday, December 23, 2023. Derek was born on August 21, 1976 in Sioux Lookout, On. He lived in Ferland in his early childhood days until he moved to Whitesand First Nation. Derek is survived by Natalie, children Kyle (Leann), Derrick (Precious), Shawna (Carson), Trinity (Abraham), Lucas, Kobe, 10 grandchildren and sister Lydia along with uncles, aunties, nieces and nephews. He had no promising career but was a hard worker helping others when he was needed for a job. His passion was fishing, but most of all he loved his children and grandchildren and spending time with family and friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Jack and Antionette, mother Irene, brother Gabriel and sisters Roberta and Kristen. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Sargent and Son Funeral Home. A second visitation will be held at 9 Doug’s Drive in Whitesand First Nation on January 2 and 3rd, 2024. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Our Lady of Snows R.C. Church.

We were saddened to hear of Derek’s passing on. We were happy to be part of his young life and beyond. We have so many wonderful memories of Derek when he lived with our family as he attended Armstrong Public School in the 1980’s.
