Kathryn Janette (Gillin) Palmer
June 17, 1951 – October 16, 2023
With great sadness, we announce that Kathy died very peacefully at home with family present, in her 73rd year. Beloved wife of John for nearly 49 years. Loving mom of Kevin (Laurie) of Woodstock, and Jenny (Scott Battram) of Norwich. Proud and doting grandmother of Taylor, Braeden and Bryce Palmer; Corelynn, Brantley and Nolan Battram.
Kathy was raised in Listowel with her siblings Kim, Bill, Jan and Kent. After secondary school, Kathy attended the Brantford General Hospital school of nursing, graduating in 1972. She then worked as a critical care nurse in Kitchener.
Kathy and John met in 1972, and were married December 20, 1974. They began dairy farming on Quaker Street in 1974, and remained there until 2012 when they moved to the village of Norwich. Kathy enjoyed all parts of nature, including livestock and crops on the farm. She had a fondness for the calves, barn cats and beloved farm dogs. Kathy took pride in her home and yard, especially many beautiful flower gardens.
Music was a life-long interest for Kathy; she was part of the Norwich United Church choir for decades, formerly was the church organist, and also involved with the Norwich Musical Society band. She always showed kindness, compassion and generosity to others, sharing flowers, food preserves, and other treats. As her health declined, she was disappointed that she could no longer continue some things she had always enjoyed. She was fiercely independent and determined, despite her increasing health challenges.
As much as Kathy loved flowers, she would prefer you honour her memory with an act of kindness or donation to charity of choice.
To honour Kathy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.
We love you Mom – rest easy.
