It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of George Edward Robertson. George, 88, of Pefferlaw, Ontario suddenly passed away on December 6, 2024. His loss is completely unexpected, and his family is deeply saddened.
Born on October 19, 1936 to Arthur and Edna Robertson in Barra Head, Nova Scotia, George was one of nine children and the last remaining of his siblings. He was one of eight siblings to migrate to Ontario to find work and start a family.
George married Helen Linda Robertson on July 26, 1958 in Toronto, Ontario and cherished 66 devoted years together. George and Helen raised seven children – Donald, Gerald, Allan, Brian, Lorraine, Pamela, and Wendy. He was also a proud grandfather – Brandon, Jeffery, Colin, Kenneth, Aaron, Samantha, Bailey, Rita, Norman, Andrew, Carson, Kevin, Katherine, Andrea, and Kayla; and a great grandfather. Family was important to George and as such his kids, grandkids and great grandkids were his pride and joy. George was predeceased by his grandson Andrew, who remains deeply missed and forever in his heart.
George was one of the kindest, most caring people who was often referred to as a gentleman by all of those that knew him. He will be forever remembered for his gentle nature, love and talent for playing guitar and singing songs for his family, friends and community functions, his love for horse racing, and his need to drive, lending him the nickname “the road runner.”
The loss of George comes as a great shock and a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him.
We are planning to host a celebration of life for George, as he deserves to be celebrated, in the spring around the time of the Kentucky Derby race weekend. We will reach out again when details have been determined.
