With heavy hearts, the Buryta family regrets to announce the peaceful passing of Jerry Buryta on March 19th, 2024, in North Bay Hospital, surrounded by his girls. Beloved husband of Wendy (Chapin) for 42 years, loving father of Courtney (Richard), Candice (Peter), and Kyleigh (Kalev), and doting grandfather to Violet and Sloane. He was predeceased by his parents Stephanie and George, and his father in law Buff Chapin. He will always be the favourite son in law to Donna Chapin. Jerry was a cherished brother to Lorraine Geraldi and Rick (Twylla) Buryta, Wayne (Vicki) Chapin, Barney (Tammy) Chapin, and Scott (Cindy) Chapin. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews and his best friends, whose love was felt deeply.
Jerry lived his life with a rare combination of kindness, generosity, and easygoing charm. His calm presence brought warmth to every gathering as he and Wendy loved hosting friends and family at their homes, most recently at Burytaville on Deer Lake near South River. Jerry was community minded and joined the Masonic Fraternity in 1987 through the Onondaga Lodge 519, holding many leadership positions including Brant District Secretary (2011) and Appointed Grand Lodge Steward (2012).
Jerry was always a lover of sports, and an athlete in his younger years. He loved snowmobiling, curling, playing golf, watching Nascar, and traveling with Wendy and their best friends. He was passionate about working with his hands, transforming spaces into beautiful places and always taking his time to get things just right. He worked at the Brantford Cashway/Rona for over 30 years, and as a renovator for the last 20 years.
Above all else, Jerry treasured spending time with his family and friends, creating countless memories that will be cherished forever. He was a friend to all who knew him and leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and warmth. His kindness, calmness and love was an inspiration to us all. He was the best husband, father and grandfather that his girls could ever ask for. He was the heart of our family and the best of all of us.
From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank the compassionate VON palliative care nurses and all of the medical professionals that were a part of our journey.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
Cremation has taken place at Forest Lawn Crematorium. Arrangements entrusted to Opatovsky Funeral Home- Moore Chapel.
