It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Susie Annette Collin on September 15th, 2024, at the age of 68. Susie died at home peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, after a brief battle with cancer.
She was an avid gardener, happiest with her hands in the dirt and her bare feet squarely planted on the ground, soaking in the sun. Susie wasn’t only an amazing gardener; she also grew a lovely family. She will be missed by her daughters, Michelle (Troy) and Francine (Todd), and all her grandchildren (Hailey, Parker, Samuel, Collin, and Nathan). Susie was the loving daughter of Laurette (predeceased) and Raymond (predeceased) and a cherished big sister to Ghislain, Annette and Carole. Sadly, she will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews and her large extended family.
The first to leave the family home, she started her young married life in Regina with her high school sweetheart Omer and her first child, Michelle was soon born. A few years later, they returned to Sudbury, where they welcomed their second daughter Franky. Soon, the Great North called, and the family settled in Manitouwadge, where the girls grew up and a lifetime of friendships and connections were made.
Later in life, Susie moved to Marathon to start a new chapter in her life. This is where she met John, who accompanied her to dances and rekindled her love of the outdoors and adventure with many camping trips and vacations to new places.
She eventually retired in Sudbury, which allowed her to reconnect with her sister Annette, who lived right next door and dear childhood friends Pauline and Anita. Susie’s gentle, caring, friendly, kind manner sowed seeds of friendship wherever she went, and she made many new friends in her new neighbourhood.
A constant gardener, quietly weeding, cultivating and tending to those she cared for and who mattered to her, her best garden was a life filled with beauty and love.
At Susie’s request, she will be cremated and laid to rest at a later date. A celebration of life is planned for the spring. If you feel moved to make a donation on Susie’s behalf, please do so to the Northern Cancer Foundation or Bayshore Home Health.
