Laura (Roy) Vincent passed away on July 15, in Sudbury (ON), shortly before her 102nd birthday. She was born in Kapuskasing (ON), in a rural setting, from parents who supported her in her wish to explore employment opportunities elsewhere in the province. It was in Sudbury that she met her husband, Léo Vincent (+1999), with whom she shared her life for 55 years. A firm believer in the importance of education for the advancement of women, she insisted that her two daughters, Shirley and Liliane (Robert Patry) obtain a university degree in order to thrive in the career of their choice. She was happiest in the great outdoors, at her beloved cottage or in her huge vegetable garden. Her culinary delights and artistic endeavors in sewing, knitting, crocheting and oil painting drew the admiration of many. Often she would express her gratitude for the peace and freedom she enjoyed as a Canadian. The legacy she leaves her large family dispersed across the country, her grandson, Éric (Marylène Villeneuve), and her great-grandchildren, Zachary and Délia Laura, is a model of pride, determination, resilience and courage.
The family is ever so thankful for the exceptional care she received in Sudbury from the medical team at the Northeast Cancer Centre, as well as from the staff and volunteers at the McCulloch Hospice. www.cooperativefuneralhome.ca
