Obituary for Joanne Stevens
1951-2024
It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Joanne Stevens at Maison McCulloch Hospice on June 16, 2024 with loving family at her side, following a short battle with cancer. Beloved partner of Harold Fraser and loving mother of Kristin (Chris), Lindsay (Richard), Eric (Lindsay), and Rebecca (Dave). Joanne shared a special bond with the father of her children and former spouse, Bob Cron. Cherished nana to her six grandsons; Cooper, Logan, Lincoln, William, Jack, and Charlie. Dear sister of Bob Stevens (pre-deceased) Lynn Stevens and Christopher Stevens. She also leaves behind her nephew Marc Moncion (Mel) and was predeceased by her niece Carmen Moncion in 2008. Joanne was the daughter of Robert Stevens and Joan Evelyn Stevens (pre-deceased).
She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her Aunt Teresa Bouchard, many cousins and her dog Clara Belle. With an extensive circle of friends, too many to name, we know that Joanne’s memory will be deeply cherished by all who knew her, especially those who lives she enriched. Joanne lived a life filled with love, creativity, and dedication to her many passions.
Joanne attended the University of Western Ontario and Laurentian University completing an under-graduate degree in the Humanities. She went on to earn her Masters degree which included two years of clinical training in counselling at the Luthwood Family Counselling Centre and the Hamilton Community Counselling Centre. She became a sessional instructor at Laurentian University (Huntington) teaching courses such as gero-counselling, nutrition and the elderly, end of life care and coping with life transitions. She developed and taught a course called “Health, Healing and Spirituality” and she also served as the Director of the Holistic Centre at Huntington University. Joanne also enrolled at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition, graduating in 2013 as a board certified holistic health coach.
Joanne had a keen eye for design and a remarkable talent for creating inviting spaces. Among her most notable and favourite projects was the Hard of Hearing Dream Home. This project exemplified her ability to blend functionality with aesthetic beauty, leaving a lasting impression on all who experienced her work.
Joanne was known for her generosity and willingness to lend a helping hand. She was always ready to give her time to those in need, embodying a spirit of selflessness that endeared her to many. Joanne was also a wonderful cook, filling her home with the delicious aromas of her culinary creations. Her love for reading and writing was evident in her contributions to Alive & Fit magazine, where she wrote several insightful articles. Her writing not only showcased her exceptional talent, but also her dedication to promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
A very special thank you to all the staff at the Maison McCulloch Hospice for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Maison McCulloch Hospice would be appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 22nd at 994 Delwood Ct, Sudbury, ON from 1-4pm.
