June 6, 1929 – May 12, 2024
We are sad to announce that (Evelyn) Edith McGinn passed away peacefully just shy of 95 years, at Extendicare Countryside in Sudbury. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Arthur McGinn; her daughters Sandra (Mike) Saddy, and Ardith (Ian) Boyne and grandsons Devon Boyne and Alexander (Nicole) Boyne. Predeceased by her parents Otto Salo and Sophia Salo, brother Harold Salo, sisters Mary Salo and Viola Franssi. Edith was born and raised in Copper Cliff on Finland Street. She graduated from “Normal School” in 1948 and taught at Gatchell Public School and Copper Cliff Public School. She continued to remain in touch with some of her students. She and Arthur met at a dance and married in 1952. They continued dancing together up until just a few years ago.
Edith was an extremely social person and enjoyed hosting many get togethers at their house in Copper Cliff, as well as their Long Lake camp/house which was truly her “happy place”. She was an active member of the Eastern Star, as well as St. Timothy’s Lutheran Church and Martha Circle.
Thanks to the staff at Meadowbrook, Health Sciences North, and Extendicare for their care during her last years.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Health Sciences North Foundation would be appreciated.
Arrangements entrusted to the Lougheed Funeral Homes.
