Ronald Stewart Higgins passed away peacefully at Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth, surrounded by his family.
Ron was born on his grandparents’ farm near Molesworth to Stewart & Marie (Doig) Higgins. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Shirley (McNeil), and his beloved children Karen (Clive) Edmonds, Terry (Brenda) Higgins, and Wanda (Kent) Cleland. Cherished grandpa/papa of Mandy (Trevor) Voyce, Shauna Chapin, Sara, Alex & Erin Cleland, Jamie, Daniel (Mackenzie) & Kevin Higgins. Dear great-grandpa to Elizabeth, Emily, William, Shayne, Max & Luke. Also survived by brothers Bill (Ruth Ann) & Paul (Rilla), brother-in-law Don (Susan) McNeil, sister-in-law Dianne McNeil, Clive’s daughters Chelsey, Elizabeth & Melinda and families, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Ron graduated from Wingham District High School, Stratford Teachers’ College & Waterloo Lutheran University. He was a dedicated educator for 35 years. He is fondly remembered for his many passions, including curling, sports, genealogy, classic cars, and family time at the cottage in Amberley.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held for family and friends on Sunday, November 26 from 2 – 4 pm at the Best Western Arden Park Hotel, Stratford. The family wishes to thank the healthcare professionals who cared for Ron. Memorial donations to Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth and Stratford General Hospital are appreciated.
