It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the tragic and sudden passing of our precious Kathryn “Katie” Amber Kirk on Thursday July 25th, 2024 at the age of 44. A life gone far too soon. Katie will be remembered for her ever-flowing acts of service and generosity to her friends, family, and chosen family across Canada. At the core of who Katie was, she was a beacon to the world on how to live a heart-centred life with kindness and love for all. We admired her forever “young-at-heart” essence – she loved sending you a ‘uniquely-you’ custom birthday cake, planning next-level scavenger hunts, trivia and games nights, and extravagant re-creations of the Amazing Race to unite and bring people together, which will be deeply missed. Katie is survived by both of her retired parents, Gayle and Peter Kirk, of Wasaga Beach, who loved her deeply and will miss her greatly every single day. She leaves behind her only sibling, Megan, and brother-in-law, Brandon, who will forever feel the void of not having a big sister. The strength and courage she displayed to follow her dreams of living in Kelowna has been inspiring, even during the darkest of times. Katie has been described by her Kelowna ‘tribe’ as having a heart-of-gold, being so loving, and such a bright light to everyone around her. Our family finds solace knowing her Kelowna family welcomed her with open arms into their homes for holidays and celebrations; Katie was deeply loved across the miles. Let us all be reminded by Katie’s passing to connect and check in on each other regularly, especially those that appear to have it all together. The family will take the time needed to grieve this loss privately. Katie’s greatest love was for her two late fur-babies, Willow and Mackie, who we hope have all reunited to play dress-up and dance once again.
Life can change in an instant, and what matters most is not how much you have, but how well you loved.
