Kotyk, Olga (nee Kuzmich)
(October 4, 1936-June 24, 2024)
Olga passed peacefully after a long and fierce battle with Cancer. We are devastated by our loss, however there is comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with her Bill who passed December 12, 2004. They met at a dance on November 4, 1954 when she was just 19 and they danced together all evening. She told her friend the next day that she was going to marry him and she was right. On August 27, 1955 they were married, started a family the year after and then spent several years living in many interesting places while Dad was in the military.
Olga was an affectionate and caring mother to Mark (Alba) Kotyk, Kimberly Kotyk, Adam Kotyk and Paula (Ross) Cutler; treasured grandmother to Christopher (Jacquie), William (Karla), Sean, Caitlin, Darylan and Clark and beloved Great-grandmother to Taylor, Cameron and Cali.
Olga will be missed by her sisters Sonia Brault, Nancy Doricki, Dolly Alionis and Jean Kuzmich. Predeceased by her mother Nellie Kuzmich, brothers Nick, Michael, Alexander and Peter Kuzmich and sister Helen Brown. She was a wonderful Aunt to many nieces and nephews on both the Kuzmich and Kotyk sides of the family.
Olga was a considerate and thoughtful friend to many. She will be remembered fondly by her Fairview Mall “Coffee Ladies” and so many others, including friends she made when she was in her youth, friends from every military station including Germany, friends from curling and golf and anywhere else she went. She proudly received an Ontario Service Award in May for her five years of service at Hospice Niagara. Many will remember her for her beautiful green eyes, her warm smile, incredible sense of style and collection of fashionable hats.
Special thanks to Dr Carlson at Juravinski, Dr. Sarah Chadwick and the palliative team (especially Nurse Alex) who did everything in their power to help her manage her illness with grace and dignity.
Cremation has taken place and as per Olga’s wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 27th from 2-4 (a short program will start at 3pm) at St. Columba Anglican Church at 7 St. Columba Dr., St. Catharines. Private Reception to follow for family and her close friends (by invitation). She told us she doesn’t want us to be sad, rather a time with friends and family to celebrate good times (she even gave us permission to share some embarrassing stories). We hope you will join us celebrating a rich and wonderful life with no regrets.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice Niagara or an organization that provides care to people fighting Cancer.
