Obituary of Maria Walukiewicz
Maria Walukiewicz, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully at Niagara Health St. Catharines Hospital on October 18, 2023 at the age of 69. She was born on July 22, 1954 in Dowialy, Russia (formerly USSR) and was preceded in death by her husband Tadeusz Korab along with her mother Janina Przybycinski.
Maria is survived by her loving family, son Christopher Korab with his wife Jenn, and son Richard Korab with his wife Mallory. Maria leaves behind her two wonderful grandchildren, Nikolas and Jakob.
Maria immigrated to Canada in 1980 after growing up in the city of Walbrzych, Poland. Maria was a dedicated mother and hard worker who enjoyed sewing, fishing, and tending to her vegetable garden and flowers. She loved cooking big Polish meals for her family to share together. Maria loved to laugh, loved to listen and dance to polka music, and teach her grandchildren Polish. She loved all animals and will be missed by her cat, Jax.
Maria leaves grieving family and friends in Canada and Poland, including her cousin, Veronica Dec, aunt Josephine Solecki, nephew Lukas, with his wife Aleksandra and baby Sofija, and nephew Robert. She will be greatly missed by her close friends Joanna Poczta and Leonia Landenberger, who helped the family immensely in the last few months.
As per Maria’s wishes, her cremation has taken place. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Walker Family Cancer Center and Niagara Health St. Catharines Hospital for their care and service to Maria. If desired, donations can be made in Maria’s memory to the Walker Family Cancer Center and would be appreciated by her family.
The family will receive visitors at the George Darte Funeral Home, 585 Carlton Street, St. Catharines on Tuesday, October 24th from 2pm-4pm. & 6pm.-8pm. Vigil Prayer will be held at 6pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 25th at 11a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 5 Oblate Street, St. Catharines with interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery to follow.
