Irwin, Madeline “Elaine” (nee Cupolo)
With saddened hearts the Irwin family would like to acknowledge the passing of a beautiful wife, a loving mother, an amazing sister, and a great friend to many. Elaine lived a full life of 81 years born on November 29, 1942, and passed away peacefully on May 14th at Welland Hospital, with her family by her side. She will be missed dearly by all, for the life she led, and the hearts she touched.
Elaine was born in Niagara Falls to Joseph and Josephine Cupolo, the younger sister to Jerry Cupolo, predeceased by sister Joyce, and older sister to Joan. Elaine attended Loretto Academy for schooling. She was raised in the Catholic faith, cherishing these beliefs throughout her lifetime. In 1960 she met David Irwin and was swept off her feet, marrying on September 26th, 1964, and starting their family. Elaine often supported David in his business ventures, including editing The Senior’s Review newspaper for 15 years. Elaine’s life was marked by her dedication to her family, her generous spirit, and her unwavering strength. She touched the lives of many with her kindness and compassion, always putting others before herself. Elaine was the magnet of the family, spending time on the landline phone in the kitchen, coordinating get togethers with family and helping family and friends who needed support during tough times, or just there to listen and made sure her Uncle Joe was always fed. Her Italian cooking and family dinners were legendary and will be remembered and missed by all. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband, David, her devoted sister, Joan (Ted) Padget , and her three beloved children, Christopher (Petra) Irwin, Marnie Irwin, and Matthew (Leanne) Irwin. She loved all her Grandchildren Bevan, Meliya, Samuel, Avery, Gabriel, and Robert. Elaine was predeceased by her dear granddaughter Cassie. Elaine was deeply connected to her great grandchildren Kyla, Jace and Madelyn, Samantha, Frankie, and Alissa. Her eyes lit up when they called or visited. Her warmth and love will be remembered and missed by all who knew her. Elaine had close connections with extended family members across the Cupolo, Paterno and Irwin families including Lisa and Blair Irwin who were very dear to her heart.
The family is respecting their mothers’ specific wishes that no formal or informal service be held. She would be happy if you raised a glass of wine or Frangelico and wished her the best, to honor Elaine’s memory. David would be pleased to have family and friends visit.
Elaine Irwin’s legacy of love, strength, and kindness will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
