Janet Mary Jackson of St. Catharines, Ontario, passed away April 10, 2024, in her 69th year at Hospice Niagara, having endured a lengthy struggle with cancer which she faced with characteristic stoic strength.
Known for a sharp wit, funny antics, and a ferocious sweet tooth, Janet was also a long-time dog lover. She is fondly remembered by numerous nephews and nieces who were frequently entertained at home with movie nights and trips to the local variety store for candy and goodies. Janet had a refined appreciation for home décor, and fancied herself a handiwoman who renovated several houses through the years. Yet her greatest accomplishment was that of foster mum. Janet opened her home and her heart to children in need and was a wonderful role model. She will be especially remembered for the love, care, and attention she gave to several foster children she raised.
Janet is survived by her mother, Mary Jackson, siblings Ann Marcante-Marsh (Robert Marcante-Marsh, deceased), Theresa Dignam (Michael Dignam), Ronnie Jackson (Christina Jackson), Corrine Ament (Ric Ament), Lorraine Upham (Richard Upham), and Peter Jackson (Jackie Rebelo). She was the beloved foster mother to Amelia and Angelica Coull. She will be missed by a large family of boisterous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and she will be remembered by her dearest friend Francis Cottone-Manchisi.
Predeceased by father Ronald Jackson, younger sister Michaela Gregory, and foster daughter Amelia Coull, who sadly passed well before their time.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Janet’s care team: Dr. Janice Giesbrecht, Oncologist (retired); Dr. Jennifer Bisson, Oncologist; Dr. Katrin Cohen, Oncology Pain Medicine; staff at the Walker Cancer Centre; staff at Hospice of St. Catharines; and the staff at St. Elizabeth Healthcare, particularly nurses Dani and Kayla. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Hospice Niagara. Cremation has occurred.
