Obituary
Frederick (Fred) Walsh, affectionately known as Buck, passed away peacefully in Port Elgin, Ontario, on August 26, 2024, surrounded by his loving wife Annie, son Scott and Daughter-In-Law Sheila holding his hand until the end. Born in Dawson Creek, British Columbia, on June 21, 1941, Fred lived a full and vibrant life.
Fred is survived by his beloved wife, Annie Walsh, and his sons, Scott Walsh (Sheila Beehler-Walsh) and Mike Walsh. He leaves behind his sister, Joyce, and was predeceased by his parents Fred and Vera, sister Beth, and brother Bob.
Fred’s career spanned from 1958 to 1981 in the Air Force, followed by a long tenure at Hydro in Bruce County from 1981 to 2001. He was a well-known figure in the local community, having owned and operated the Paisley Hotel from 1984 to 1994, where he was instrumental in bringing numerous talented musical acts to the area.
Music was Fred’s greatest passion. He loved playing and recording with his children, jamming with many talented musicians, and hosting Country Hoe Downs that brought together friends from both Canada and the United States. Fred was so excited to share all his music videos on his YouTube channel ‘Fearless Freddy Walsh and the Gang’ for friends and family to enjoy. Fred was all about making people happy and enjoying life through music.
His travels with Annie through Texas, Florida, Arizona and the Western States, resulted in lifelong friendships and cherished memories. He particularly enjoyed boondocking in the desert with his brother where they played old campfire songs for the local rodents.
In addition to his musical endeavors, Fred was a dedicated nature photographer, with his bird photos published and celebrated for their artistry. He was also an avid woodturner, creating beautiful bowls, vases, and pens that he gifted to friends and loved ones.
Fred faced his recent illness with great courage and stoicism. The family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care provided by Dr. Khan, Dr. Billings, VON nurses Vicky, Rachel, and Katrina, as well as the staff at the doctor’s office, including Amy and Michelle.
Fred’s life was a testament to his love for his family and his belief in kindness. His guiding principle was simple yet profound: “Don’t do anything to hurt anyone else or yourself; you will be a good human.” He will be remembered with deep affection and respect by all who knew him.
