Obituary of Douglas Stewart Scott
It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Douglas Stewart Scott (July 6, 1951) passed away suddenly on October 14th, 2023 at the Kingston General Hospital. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, especially by his wife Lynne (Lafond), his beloved son Jeffrey, daughter-in-law, Ceilidh (Kinlin) and his grandson, his best buddy, Douglas Joseph Scott. He was predeceased by his cherished parents John ‘Jack’ and Mary (Munro) Scott, as well as step-mother Keitha (Kidd).
He will be sadly missed by his brothers Bill (Jo-Anne) and Alan (Nancy), sister-in-laws Wendy (Mike) Guillemette, Renee (Claude) Laflamme, brother-in-law Robert (Debbie) Lafond, Joe (deceased) (Louise), step-siblings Mary Jane (Rob) Valiquette, George (Gwen) Kidd, and Lisa (Doug) McEwan, as well as many nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
Doug grew up in Perth where he played many sports, focusing on baseball, hockey and later in life, golf. Along the way, he developed many lifelong friendships that were very important to him. His work as a carpenter took him to various places in Ontario and while in Kapuskasing, he met and married Lynne and started their family. Upon retirement, they moved back to Perth reconnecting with great friends. Doug enjoyed most days on the Perth golf course chasing that elusive perfect game. Most recently he also spent time on his boat exploring the nearby waterways teaching his grandson to fish.
To say Doug was a well-loved man would be an understatement. He was a hard-working, dependable person who was the most wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend imaginable. He got so much joy out of spending time and catching up with his family and friends. He had a beautiful sense of humour, often joking around and teasing in his playful way. His quiet thoughtfulness never went unnoticed as he took care of all of us. During his very brief illness, it was clear that Doug was proud of the life he had lived and though we would all give anything for more time, we take comfort in the fact that he did not suffer. We will all strive to live our lives to the fullest, as he would have wanted.
In honour of his wishes, services will be held privately for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, Doug’s hope was that any donations be made to the CHEO Foundation as pediatric healthcare was something he held near and dear to his heart. cheofoundation.com/
