It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Sharon Mary Hawken. Sharon passed away on Monday September 23 at the age of 71 after a long and courageous battle with both breast cancer and heart disease. She was a loving mother to Ben (Tiffany) and Chris. Doting grandmother of Noah, Evelyn and recent addition Cocoa, who will miss her very much. Survived by sisters Janet Valentine (Paul), Joan Ariss (Rob), and brothers Ken Peever (Heather) and John Peever (Marie). Predeceased by her mother Mary Peever and father James Peever. She will be also be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews, cousins, and her dear friends.
Sharon always made it a point at family gatherings to chat with as many family members as she could, expressing a genuine interest in hearing about their lives. After graduating from The School of Medical Technology at Chedoke Hospital (McMaster Hamilton Health Services) Sharon graduated as a laboratory technician. For 20 years in this field, she helped others through her commitment to work, and it continued In her second career with LeeValley Tools. She was a very creative person who loved doing artwork in metal, stained glass, pottery, and wood among other mediums. She had a knack for turning the ordinary into something special and her creativity was a gift to all who knew her. Sharon also had an adventurous spirit with an insatiable love for travel with her friends as she sought out new experiences and embraced different cultures. She loved to discover new places with camera always in hand; capturing the beauty of the world around her. Her absence leaves a void in our hearts but we find comfort in the many memories of the beautiful life she lived.
Cremation has taken place per her request. Family and Friends are welcome to gather to celebrate her life at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Saturday, October 26, 2024 from 3 – 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers please consider memorial contributions to the Canadian Cancer Society or The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
