OBITUARY
Edward A. O. Enniss
April 15, 1921- May 23, 2024
Edward Angel Obendorf Enniss passed away at the Providence Hospital, Toronto on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Born in the village of Ithaca, West Bank, Berbice in Guyana, South America on April 15, 1921, he was the eldest son and last survivor of a family of ten (10) children (Susan, Marsena, Aridatha, Elsie, Charles, Stockford, Winston, Winifred, and Rayai- all deceased).
Edward was married to the former Louise C.A. Joseph, a union that lasted 74 years 8 months, until her passing in April 2023. Together they raised six children, three boys and three girls- Frank, Valerie, Ingrid, Pinky Ann, Hughroy (Eleanor), and Andrew (Alisha). They had six grandchildren- twins, Nigel (deceased) (Pierette) & Dexter (Kelly) Enniss, Marvin Maxwell (Leigh Ann), Tricia Creft-Brown, Alicia Enniss, and Ryan Enniss. He has been blessed with six great grandchildren, Jeremiah & Elijah Enniss, Gabriella Brown, Annalia & Marques Maxwell, and Yohansa Enniss. These all deeply mourn his passing.
He was Uncle Eddie to more than 60 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who also mourn his passing: the Andersons (Dolwin (deceased) (Timothine), Michael (Joyce), Wilston, and others; the Benjamin’s- Lenore (James), Leslyn (Charles), Lanomay, and others; Cromwell (deceased), Carol, Euclid, and others; The Enniss’s -Charles (Carol), Walford (Sandra), Evadnie (Patrick), and others; Gloria (Edmund), June (deceased), Evette, Phanuel (Ann), and others; the Douglas’s- Basil (Beryl), Errol, Gerrard (both deceased). They also include his wife’s nieces and nephews- the Joseph’s- Iryll, Aubrey, Phillip, and others; Dawn, Tenna, Odetta, and others; Gilbert (Joy), Lorraine, Ena, and others; Ulric, Desiree, Barbara, and others; the Johnson’s- Ronald, Cynthia (deceased), Danford. He was also cousin to Maylene Briggs of Ithaca, Guyana and her children Remy, Oista and others, Wanda Sears, Carol Watts, and others.
In 1988, Edward, his wife Louise, and their youngest son, Andrew immigrated to Alberta, Canada from Linden, Guyana and moved to Toronto in 1990. A committed Seventh-day Adventist, he chose the cozy comfort of the small Beulah congregation (Sloane and Lawrence Avenue, Scarborough). In 1993, he and his late wife became charter members of Shiloh, the newly amalgamated Beulah and Ephesus congregations, in Scarborough, Ontario. Edward remained a dedicated member of Shiloh where he served as an elder. Sabbath School teacher, and member of Shiloh Men’s Chorale, blending his melodious baritone voice with the choral group under the direction of Urich Ferdinand, until about 2013. Edward also loved to play the guitar.
Edward was an accomplished builder, machinist, and carpenter who made most of the furniture in the family home in Guyana. He was also an avid reader, whose only problem with age was his failing eyesight because he could no longer read his bible and keep abreast of the progress of the Seventh-day Adventist Church through the Adventist Review and Canadian Messenger.
Edward went to sleep in Jesus with a firm hope in the promise of the resurrection and soon return of Jesus to put an end to death and sin. Dad, Granddad, Uncle Eddie, Elder Enniss, you have fought the good fight! You have finished the course, and you have kept the faith! Jesus has promised that a crown of life awaits the faithful when he returns! Sleep in peace until then!
