It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Connie, on December 31, 2023 after a brief illness. Beloved wife of Gary for 45 years (predeceased), she is survived by her children, Gordie and David, and her four grandchildren, Cindy, Jeffrey, Sabrina, and Holden. Connie will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Born on April 24, 1943 in Brighton, Ontario to Leslie and Marjorie Flindall, Connie attended the local elementary and secondary schools and upon graduation worked at Brighton’s Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce branch as head teller. There she met Gary Tremaine, the perfect match in devotion, admiration, and love. They married in Brighton in 1965 and started a family the very next year.
Although we lived in a variety of smaller towns in Ontario as our family was growing up (Bolton, Belleville, Uxbridge, Bradford, and Cobourg), Connie always wanted to live in Toronto and, in 1979, we moved to our house on Brian Drive in North York. She would live there for the rest of her life, even after the passing of Gary in 2010. It was a place of pleasant memories and a home she was reluctant to give up.
Although Connie was beset with a multitude of serious medical problems her entire adult life, she never let it get in the way of looking after our family. Despite her many illnesses, her diligence, kindness, and love for us never wavered. Truly, there was no mother who performed her duties more selflessly or with greater single-mindedness. Perhaps she was overprotective but it’s a fact that no one came to even the least harm under her relentless and invincible guardianship.
Connie loved her pets, and she loved her children, and she loved very dearly her husband, Gary. She was loved back, of course, very much so, but her kindness and generosity were very great, indeed, and it is undoubted that she gave far more than she ever received. We’ll always miss the one person who was looking out for us every moment of our lives.
In lieu of flowers, we would appreciate memorial donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice.
