Obituary of John James Burton
BURTON, John James – John passed away at his residence in Corunna on Monday, September 16, 2024 at the age of 90. Beloved husband of Susanne (Henderson). Dear father of Michael Burton and Lisa Burton. John was born in Dartford, England, son of the late Gaius and Doris Burton. He served with the Royal Buffs in Canterbury, Kent, England. Upon his discharge from the army, he served 12 years in Kenya with the Colonial Police and was awarded the Medal of Gallantry by the Queen for his services. After leaving Kenya, he went to Sierra Leone where he was Head of Security for a diamond mine. It was here he met Susanne and they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary in March. In 1978 he was offered a position with Dow Chemical, Sarnia where he spent 23 years. He retired as Head of Fire and Security for Dow Eastern Canada. John was involved for many years with St. John Ambulance where he was recognized by the Governor General of Canada for his efforts. He was an avid hiker and completed the Bruce Trail and was a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Friends will be received at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Church, Corunna on Friday, September 20, 2024 Time to be Announced. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, friends who wish may send memorial donations to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation.
