ACTON (Richardson), Dorothy Ann – with her family by her side, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, peacefully passed away at the age of 93 on Sunday, September 15th, 2024. The presence of her family was a constant reminder of how deeply she was cherished and the profound impact she made on those around her.
Predeceased by the love of her life, Richard Acton (2011). Beloved mother to Doug (Marti), Dale (Cathy), Warren (Janice), Greg (Claudia) and Lisa (Mark). Cherished grandmother of Lauren, Nicole, Andrew (Jill), Natalie (Nicholas), Erica (Rob), Melissa (Jason), Jeff (Carly), Brad (Stacey), Travis (Tara), Karleigh (Grant), Kevin (Julie), Joel (Jessica), Alyssa (Michael), Cassandra (Jessie) and Candace (Colton). Devoted great grandmother to twenty-three and treasured aunt/great aunt to many. We will forever miss the smile on her face and sparkle in her eyes when her grandchildren or great grandchildren would enter the room.
Predeceased by parents, Alberta and Wayne Richardson, brother Bob, and brothers-in-law Richard, Jim, Tom and Lyle. Survived by, sister Nancy and sisters-in-law Linda, Sharron and Janice.
Dorothy was a long-time secretary at St. Luke’s United Church and at Cathcart School. Her many paintings grace the walls of her friends, family and in her home. She loved to travel and the scenery often became subjects for her paintings. Known for her warm nature, she will be fondly remembered for her passions for baking, gardening and curling.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Kim, Dr. MacSweeney, the Palliative Care unit at Bluewater Health, and the amazing staff and volunteers at St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Family and friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22nd at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A celebration of life will follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. An interment at Lakeview Cemetery will take place on Monday, September 23rd at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice or the Alzheimer Society (cheques only at the funeral home, please).
