PILGRIM, Shirley Ann (nee Cartman)
March 3, 1945 – February 1, 2024
It is with great sorrow we announce that Shirley Pilgrim went to her heavenly home on February 1, 2024, in her 79th year, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Beloved wife and best friend of Beatty Pilgrim for 59 years. She will be missed by her children; Brenda Kellar (Bruce), Barry Pilgrim (Jenny) and Heather Pilgrim-Giroux (Rene). Predeceased by son Bobby Pilgrim.
Loving grandmother of Mitchell Kellar, Stuart Kellar (Valerie), Thomas Kellar, Mya, Dori and Ava Pilgrim, Lindsay Wright (Olivier), Alex Wright (Alexandra), Audrey Lavigne, Benoit Giroux (Adelle) and Michelle Giroux. Predeceased by granddaughter Amy Kellar.
Great grandmother to Ebony, Aurora, Ryan, Charlie, Layla, Amelia and Tyler.
She was the only child of the late Robert and Norma Cartman.
Sister-in-law of Thelma Eyre (late Lawrence), Gloria Desabrais (late David Pilgrim), Evelyn Pilgrim (late Harvey), William and Faith Stephens.
Shirley was foster mother to more than 50 children over a period of 28 years.
She was also committed to community service through her church, Groves Park Lodge and Whitewater Historical Society.
She was compassionate and generous to those around her. She did this very quietly, she was always helping someone in need. She had a genuine desire to make a positive impact and leave a lasting difference.
She played a key role in establishing and supporting a family construction business for many years while also working at Renfrew Victoria Hospital for 42 years
Shirley cherished the simple joys of life, finding happiness in gardening, time on the porch, reading and celebrating special moments with her family. She enjoyed bringing loved ones together for celebrations, creating cherished moments.
She didn’t get excited or stressed about anything, she believed things would work out as they were meant to.
Her perspective on life, viewing each day as a gift reflected her grateful and positive mindset. She reminded us to cherish the moments and find joy in the simple pleasures of daily life.
Let her light shine on!
Our family would like to thank everyone for the many prayers, visits, cards, flowers and meals delivered during her illness. Your support has been greatly appreciated.
We would especially like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Hospice Renfrew and Dr. Stephanie Langlois for their kindness, compassion and excellent care.
Shirley’s final care has been entrusted to Zohr Family Funeral Home, Renfrew where visitation will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. A brief visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 – 1:00p.m. A Funeral Service will take place Tuesday afternoon at the Whitewater Wesleyan Community Church at 2:00 p.m. A private spring interment will be held at Rosebank Cemetery.
